The state of Illinois passed a law that classifies assault or battery against a retail worker who is communicating mask guidelines as "aggravated battery." Aggravated battery, which is a step up from simple battery, is considered a felony and can carry a sentence of two-to-five years in prison, as well as up to $25,000 in fines.
