Sen. Kamala Harris formally accepted her Democratic vice presidential nomination in a virtual speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday evening.
Harris told the story of her upbringing in Oakland, California and focused on her mother, an Indian immigrant and scientist, who raised Harris and her sister largely on her own. Harris shared her upbringing as a daughter of immigrants, a Jamaican father and Indian mother, to highlight her values. She began her speech on Wednesday by paying tribute to the women who fought for the 19th Amendment, which was ratified 100 years ago this week, and the ongoing fight for enfranchisement. "Right now, we have a president who turns our tragedies into political weapons," Harris said. "Joe will be a president who turns our challenges into purpose."
Trump and his Republican allies, including Vice President Mike Pence, who is due to debate Harris in October, have been on the offense since she secured the nomination.
Harris is not black.
No mention of her being the first Indian American Veep nominee? That seems exclusive of you. She’s more Indian American (1/2) than Black (1/4). I just realized she’s equally White (1/4) as she is Black. 😏😏😏 Hmm...narrative based reporting? DiversityandInclusion
It wasn’t optimistic.
kuku27 First time ever a Jamaican will be on top. What are Indians (dumb creatures) jumping about, being ignorant, they consider Kamala as one of them, are Indians also Jamaicans? a question o/o curiosity
She’s not black 😂
Hillary was optimistic too. Look where she is today.
