Today's remote work culture is having both a positive and negative impact on women in the workplace. While 70% of working women think the changes brought on by the coronavirus pandemic will give them more flexibility to control their work schedule in the future, a recentshows that this flexibility of working outside the office could also hurt women's chances of feeling seen and heard at work.
Additionally, three in five female employees say they feel like their prospects of getting a promotion are worse in their new remote work environment. Now, when she's talked over in virtual meetings, Fletcher says she politely says, "Excuse me, I need to finish, or, "I haven't finished my thought and I can't wait to hear what you think about it."
Catalyst CEO Lorraine Hariton agrees and says that one of the first steps to fixing this problem is for companies to "double down on their diversity and inclusion efforts" so that more women are in leadership positions.
MakeIt Its difficult because they're probably shy.
MakeIt Apparently also difficult to speak up and be respected when being a guest on one of your network shows.
MakeIt You mean like when being interviewed by Jim Cramer? You need to take action on this . At a minimum he should be suspended.
MakeIt Because of people like Jim Cramer.
MakeIt lol
MakeIt Fire jimcramer !
MakeIt What percentage of men business leaders say it's difficult to speak up in virtual meetings? What percentage of ANYONE (including K thru 16 students on zoom) say it is difficult to speak up in virtual meetings? Gender bait much?
MakeIt Jim Cramer needs to go!
MakeIt How so ? The stuff coming out of CNBC is total bullshit these days. Fire everyone affiliated with online posting.
MakeIt Maybe because they deal with men like jimcramer and the organizations (like ) that support their bad behavior with a 'boys will be boys' response to their behavior every single day.
MakeIt Guess you were not listening to your ' Bear Stearns is doing fine' anchor calling the Speaker of the House crazy.
MakeIt Take for example Jim Cramer calling Speaker Nancy Pelosi names on a nationally televised interview. Do you really believe in supporting women leaders? Put your money where your mouth is and fire Jim Cramer! FireJimCramer FireCramer CNBCFireCramer
MakeIt Yeah, it doesn’t help when you put Jim Cramer on referring to the speaker of the house as “crazy Nancy.” BoycottJimCramer womenvote2020
MakeIt Well there’s a headline from a network that allowed Jim Kramer to speak disrespectfully to the Speaker of the House. If that can happen how can regular women be expected to get respect?
MakeIt 100% of women who talk to Jim Cramer on cnbc are treated with disrespect. Just ask SpeakerPelosi
MakeIt have you fired jimcramer yet?
MakeIt Stop whining
MakeIt It is difficult when you allow jimcramer to disrespect women on your network and 'claim' is was quoting someone else. FireJimCramer
MakeIt Are you kidding me? Maybe they don’t want to be called “Crazy?”
MakeIt Maybe speak up and quit whispering
MakeIt i beg to fucking differ
MakeIt In my experience women never shut the hell up. Maybe my future dating will be by zoom.
MakeIt and yet when facetiming with the grandkid I can't get a word in edgewise! I guess they're not much of a leader if they don't lead.
MakeIt it’s difficult for anyone to speak up in them don’t make this a gender issue - again. nice reprint
MakeIt Men don’t admit it
MakeIt Why
MakeIt Hahah ffs go to fucking work then.
MakeIt They must not work at my firm cause our ladies ain’t scared
MakeIt And how many men?
MakeIt suck some nuts you sexist assholes
MakeIt I’m guessing that’s the white man’s fault lol
MakeIt Either you are weak or not confident! Nothing about being a woman! I am, always speaks my mind! Drrh always blame on something.
MakeIt We had a Sr VP in our office who just wouldn't STFU
MakeIt It’s called unmuting
MakeIt Since when do women have an issue with speaking up?
MakeIt Men tend to take all the way over
MakeIt FakeNews narrative
MakeIt Studies have shown for decades that women in the office are often softer, speak up less and are cautious about being rude aka inturupting on a zoom or confernce call. Howcwr thoss traits are exactly what companies want and need to survive and win. Being tough isnt mean its strong
MakeIt Sounds like a personal problem to me.
MakeIt Let's stop having virtual meetings, so we can go back to hearing women complain about being ignored in real meetings.
MakeIt California better make a law.
MakeIt Who are these Business leaders and how do they know how all women feel? Wouldn’t they be more cloistered?
MakeIt Resign and appoint a man who doesn't have a problem speaking up.
MakeIt Is this serious?
MakeIt Lol, not from where I sit....
MakeIt That’s what separate the people that excel and fail in business. Aggression not outright but motivated aggressiveness is seen as valuable. Every fault isn’t someone else’s.
MakeIt What were the numbers for men? Lots of people find group meetings difficult to navigate. And, if there is a problem speaking up, are we going to hold them accountable, or are we going to blame others?
MakeIt Finding the proper etiquette when using zoom can be a bit intimidating. Remember your ideas count and your thoughts are valued. Sending a message to the group on the ensuing topic as to not interrupt the speaker can help or simply raising your virtual hand. Remember speak up!
MakeIt Try harder
MakeIt So you're saying 45% of women business leaders are in over their heads?
MakeIt It’s hard for anyone to speak up in a virtual mtg
MakeIt That’s bullshit! I’ve been in many Zoom meetings and woman have no problem dominating the conversation. Let’s give woman and man some credibility here!
MakeIt Okay... what’s the % of men. I would venture to guess the number is high too.
