Not only will reddit see a boost in usage as people look for entertainment and connection during lockdowns, its news-oriented nature will also contribute to growth

Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification. This growth is largely because news about the pandemic and US election is driving users to the platform.

Insider Intelligence analyzes this industry and several others to provide in-depth analyst reports, proprietary forecasts, customizable charts, and more. This year, reddit will see a sharp acceleration in US user growth, with the number of monthly users in the US growing by over a quarter from last year to reach 37.7 million. Not only will reddit see a boost in usage as people look for entertainment and connection during lockdowns, its news-oriented nature will also contribute to its growth.

"The higher volume of news in 2020, due to both the pandemic and the fraught election cycle, is the main driver of higher reddit user growth," said Peter Newman, eMarketer senior forecasting analyst at Insider Intelligence. As news on both fronts begins to abate next year, however, we expect growth to slow to 8.2%.
