Facebook has continuously been trying to monetize WhatsApp and has invested in the platform's potential for shopping

Through Carts, WhatsApp users can add products to a shopping cart while browsing a merchant's catalog and can then send the order to the business via messaging.For merchants, this functionality lets them more easily track order inquiries and requests from customers. Carts is now available globally, including in WhatsApp's top three markets—India, Brazil, and the US—which will have a combined 573.

6 million users in 2020, per Facebook has continuously been trying to monetize WhatsApp and has invested in the platform's potential for shopping. Despite the service's global popularity, WhatsApp does not generate revenues proportional to its reach, given the service is both free and does not sell ads .
