Following his city's row with NLEx Corporation on issues related to the tollway operator's cashless payment system, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian has reminded companies anew to fulfill their duties accordingly.
During a virtual briefing on Saturday, Gatchalian reiterated that business permits granted to firms by local governments are not a right but a privilege.
The Valenzuela City government earlier suspended NLEx's business permit following complaints of motorists about issues such as faulty RFID sensors, which caused huge vehicular traffic jams in the locality. The suspension unsnarled traffic but also deprived NLEX of their authority to collect tolls from motorists.
Gatchalian eventually ordered the conditional lifting of the corporation's permit suspension following an agreement between both parties on fee collection policies. This effectively ended the toll holiday in Valenzuela.Hindi natin pinipili kung malaki ka, maliit ka — basta may mali ka, mali ka.
Gatchalian also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for"understanding" his government's response to the RFID mess and affirming the autonomy of LGUs through his remarks on the issue during his recent public address.
