Santa's handing out dolls to children in Ivory Coast and this year they will look a little bit more like them. That is the hope of Sara Coulibaly, CEO of Naima Dolls - a company that creates dark-skin dolls and toys focused on African culture

Five years on, Coulibaly’s company Naima Dolls employs around 20 young women who were scrambling on a recent afternoon to package 32 models of dolls with dark skin in time for Christmas.

“I want them to be conscious of the fact that they are beautiful, that their culture is beautiful and their culture is rich,” she said, ruing the widespread use of skin-lightening creams across Africa.

thank you very much for your work

Wait...so, even in Africa, are most dolls white? No African toy companies besides this one?

Over 50 years ago I begged for a bride doll for Christmas. But I didn't want a blue-eyed blonde. I wanted one with dark hair. This is the only doll my mother could find. She made the bride outfit herself. It's discolored a little over time, but I still love her.

Missing Yamoussoukro a lot ) La Cotê d’Ivoire me mangue 🥰

This should be marketed and sold across the continent. Unfortunately African governments only pay lip-service to Free Trade agreements.
