Australia has "just months" to fix major problems with the electricity market, according to a blistering assessment of the state of the energy sector. The Energy Security Board says the energy market needs a rapid redesign to keep up with changing technologyEnergy Minister Angus Taylor agrees action now is critical to minimise future disruptions
The ESB was established by the energy arm of the Council of Australian Governments to "support the transition of Australian energy markets and advance the long-term interests of consumers".The report found that security of electricity supply "remains the most concerning issue" for the National Electricity Market , which includes all states and territories except Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
"To manage security issues, AEMO has had to intervene in the market far more than in earlier years."A direction is when some power generators are asked to increase or decrease their output to shore up electricity supply. The report welcomed the growth of renewable energy, citing its success in "substantially" lowering emissions, with the electricity sector on track to cut emissions by more than 50 per cent by 2030 based on 2005 levels.
"The technology and renewables-driven transformation of our energy market is no longer an if or when proposition. It is here and now," she said."The current set of systems, tools, market arrangements and regulatory frameworks is no longer entirely fit for purpose.
Storage. Any renewable project should not be approved until it can provide at least 24 hr storage or backup power.
Tony Abbott stuff up the NEG which apparently had bipartisan support and gave us do nothing Scotty and Angus AngusTaylorMP ScottMorrisonMP AlboMP
Well the answer is not 100% renewables until the technology is more advanced most of us know the solution
Reverting back to the DarkAges
This is the cursory warning for the sale of our state owned utilities to foreign companies.... The Liberals never learn
A rapid redesign... you mean like germany, the world leader in renewables... So we too can be like them, with world leading prices (ie highest) and reliability (one of the worst)... Yeah, great idea🤦♀️ Nuclear would give us reliable (secure) cheap power
Over to Minister for Doctored Documents.
Aka; Stop subsidizing green energy and having the public cop the increase in power prices.
Nuclear. It's not that hard. Government is evil.
More junk for landfill in 15-25 years when they are decommissioned. Someone else's problem by then.
We have known this for at least 20 years both parties obviously have not done enough. We have been installing renewable generation patting ourselves on the back. When we should have been setting up procedures and systems to secure renewables, then start installing the hardware.🤦♂️
Build more coal fired, it's the only way shy of nuclear. Renewables are only there to assist a growing need for electricity, consumption is high. Coal is the answer
Lol. The continued indoctrination of the gullible masses.
It is a total waste of time to expect anything useful in terms of a strategy, plan, or even future direction from these COALition governments for our Energy markets ...
If only the transition started about- ohhh, 20 fucking years ago! People should have listened to the greens.
