Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill Thursday aiming to allow Texans to sue social-media companies if their content or accounts are banned

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill Thursday aiming to allow residents to sue social-media companies if their content or accounts are banned from their platforms, a move that comesMr.

Abbott, a Republican, said House Bill 20 would prevent companies from banning users based on their political viewpoints and allow residents in the state to sue the companies to reinstate accounts deemed to have been unfairly removed. The legislation targets platforms with at least 50 million monthly users in the U.S, which would include those such as Twitter Inc . , Facebook Inc . , and Google’s YouTube among others.

So Abbott is arguing that the government should regulate private businesses while arguing in another case that the government *can't* regulate private businesses. Abbott is killing his own citizens with the misinformation social media is trying to manage.

This is about banning conservative speech, that can’t be Republicans. And maybe they don’t want you using their platform, surely Republicans are all for not allowing personal freedoms

Boom!

What, I wouldn't hire em .

A real leader and a real patriot.

How much longer are the people of Texas going to let this idiot hold office, spend taxpayer money on frivolous lawsuits? He cannot make a private company serve people who break their policies. I don't care what court he takes it to.

More states need to do this.

GovAbbott - if you wanted to be one of those attorneys that sue for hangnails, trips, falls, you know- just be you! Don't take up the seat of an elected official who should be addressing CLIMATE, INFRASTRUCTURE, HEALTHCARE, POVERTY, STUDENT DEBT. Rich bastards wasting time🤦‍♀️

Never going to pass. I bet. But this is a really powerful law.

Watching Americans destroy themselves is interesting 🤔

Lol good luck with that.can anyone say government overreach

Obviously aimed at benefitting lawyers who will dupe gullible Texans into suing in a losing cause. Have you heard of “we reserve the right to refuse service”?

Texans should sue to have GovAbbott removed. STOP MAKING TEXAS A THEOCRACY!! AbbottFailedTexasAgain

What bs.

Just when you think Americans are crazy enough already, along comes Texas.

Real Dictator, will do anything to please da base and get re-elected.

Social media companies should decide not to operate in Texas. As private companies they have a choice whether to service an area or not. If Texas wants to pass laws that make it hard for social media companies to operate ethically then don't service them.

Who the

How about a law we can sue the Governor for stupidity.

Talk about mental health crisis, Abott's got some serious mental issues

Take away social media from Texas. Two problems solved.

Liberals virtue-signal by driving electric cars and wearing rainbow flags. Conservatives virtue-signal by driving pickup trucks, eating meat, insulting gay people, and proudly fighting for the right to be a Nazi.

Why couldn’t they already do this You can sue anybody you want… it doesn’t mean you’ll win.

Umm yeah. Social media are private company ies that you have to agree to be on their platform. This won't hold up

so one can use social media for terrorism or promote hatred and still social media cant ban them! Interesting!

Texas just writing nonsense laws left and right like there’s no precedents or judicial review

Except that they all clicked Ok to the terms of service, so…

morgfair That’s not how it works. This also will be rejected by the courts.

Just like that the hypocrites no longer believe private companies should be able to do whatever they want.

Enabling the dirty mouth ones...

But yet Texans can't sue the government because they are exempt.

lol

This is the government interfering with commercial freedom. Does the governor want to take the socialist road?

Maybe Texas should just leave.

cindygallop Such would be a violation of federal contract settled law. So such suits GovAbbott will only be overturned in Federal court!

Is this guy insane?

Dude's desperate. His handlers must not be happy with his performance and want their money back. AbbottFailedTexas

Nice

Wouldn’t it be great if social media companies decided that Texas is full of crazies and didn’t allow them on the companies social media platform. Then we’d be spared their spewing.

Texas on a roll lately 😑

GovRonDeSantis

Hahahahaha

Boom

And on the 8th day God created 'Terms of Service' his bill is worthless as a Trump University diploma

He must have a lot of attorney friends that need work....

If corporations are people, and Twitter is a corporation, then the First Amendment prevents governments from controlling their speech.

Oh you Texas how you make giggle and give me bad ideas

400 Texans died today of Covid and this absolute bell end twiddles with Twitter laws

Use code words for medical procedures, it’s not the government’s job to limit your freedom of speech, or be involved with medical decisions.

As if this will go anywhere. Let the idiots sue. We're not talking about a utility company here. Social media is free and has terms.

Greg abbot is really a democrat not a republican

He's really trying hard to be worse than DeSantis.

Now he just needs a law that says all those people actually have a chance of winning those lawsuits.

I’m old enough to remember when the right was pushing for tort reform to reign in frivolous litigation

Texas kicks ass lately

Texas…Fire this guy!!

You could always sue, LMFAO, you can sue anyone for almost anything doesn't mean you'll win LOL. You are on a private platform and you agreed to constantly changing user agreements = your lawsuit worthless.

Hahahahaha
