The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has warned against complacency regarding the COVID-19 virus.

of the virus that was driven by the Omicron variant.

Statistics show that Gauteng continues to record the highest number of cases, followed by the Western Cape, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal provinces. The Institute’s Professor Adrian Puren has encouraged people to remain vigilant and continue to respect protocols like mask-wearing in public. “You know, I think that people think that the pandemic is over, it’s not over. We certainly have come through its fourth resurgence. It’s really difficult I think to predict what will happen with regard to this virus and in terms of its evolution. So far, what we’ve seen in circulation is the variant of concern and some of the sub-lineages, but we’re not sure what those lineages really mean. So, I think it’s important for us as South Africans to not become complacent.
