Competitors in the Alberta oil industry have locked arms and pledged to wipe out greenhouse gas emissions as part of the Oil Sands Pathways to Net Zero alliance. But there are open questions about how much of the plan is achievable, what is motivating the oil companies and whether the sector's actions match their words.

Sitting on stage with Little was Cenovus chief executive Alex Pourbaix, who explained that reaching net zero won't be easy.

Among the other oilsands executives was Suncor's Martha Hall Findlay, who only joined the industry two years ago, after spending much of her career in politics and public policy. Unlike her colleagues, she speaks differently — much more straightforwardly — about the environmental issues confronting the sector.

"I introduce myself and say, 'Hi, I'm the chief climate officer for an oilsands company. Let that sink in for a minute.'"No one knows exactly which technologies will all be needed for the oilsands to reach net-zero, says Suncor executiveMartha Hall Findlay says oilsands companies are looking at a variety of projects to help drive down emissions.

The Calgary-based environmental think-tank questions whether the industry can design, permit and construct the first phase of its proposed CCS facility by the end of the decade. That's one reason why the report outlines how the oilsands will likely fail to meet climate targets set out by the federal government.and a few staff members, and that likely won't change for several years, until construction is expected to begin on the first phase of the CCS facility.

' open questions '? It has a name, 'greenwashing'.

We have all heard that before. It's not new! Companies as usual with Money & Power are buying time! Get off oil & gas treadmill World! Every single day a group of mostly men talk about why oil & gas prices are high but World needs it! Drill some more, yet oil & gas is polluting!

So… reading this I concluded that it’s kind your fault not enough people have heard about this .

Now tell us the one about the three bears.

never forget skidmark trudeau molested some one's daughter and then called her a liar and the cbc helped cover it up.

Yeah self regulation is sure to be successful 😒

🤪

There is one way to end the emissions from the northern Alberta oil sands projects. Stop mining oil there. Just getting it out of the ground accounts for about 30% of Canada’s total emissions. We can meet our emissions targets for the next 50 years by just shutting this down.

What a joke. A complete farce. We print articles like this over and over like we might *do something* and nothing ever gets done. Just nonsense.

The amount of bullshit leaking out of JustinTrudeau's ass is an emissions problem. CBC Should be focusing on real problems like that first.
