Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa president, Chief Lameck Mokoena, has called for a referendum on the death penalty.This follows the arrest of three people who appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Monday.whose mutilated body was found dumped near her home last Saturday.“The brutal killing of the innocent young girl at Mganduzweni and many other incidences in this country is a cause for concern.
“Unless government comes up with some innovative ideas on how to deal with this thing, our country is becoming a banana republic. We call upon government to call for a referendum to test the will of the people as to whether the death penalty should not be brought back,” adds Mokoena.
Bring back death sentence
I disagree with that completely because we still can improve but we lack leadership in all fronts to effect change as society starting by discussing these minimum sentences like life which are ineffective in terms of curbing crime and be replaced by long sentences like 200 years
After all false rape cases this far, how many released men could have been killed? Should this referendum succeed, very strict rules and processes must be put in place 🤔. Women killing for insurance claims must also be included. Down with all forms of GBV.

I don’t think it shud be via referendum. There should be an evidence based review. What is a priority shud be revamp of policing, enforcement and to some extent the judicial system. Crime seems not to have much consequence in this beautiful land. That needs to be fixed.

I can agree on that only if our judiciary can also deal with equality on regard as well, I mean human rights must also be looked into as well because whites to be specific have financial muscles compared to us blacks therefore they can compensate to get away with death penalty

This is positive progress. 100%. Nobody can be excused or rehabilitated after intentionally raping or killing a child.
Femicide should be punishable by death yes. The unfortunate part is our biased courts and judges who will preside over the cases. Jail the monsters for multiple life sentences without parole in the meantime, until we fix the courts. Sad state of affairs indeed.
