Only eight of 44 referendum proposals have been supported by voters since Federation. The last successful proposal was carried in 1977, but the landmark 1967 proposal on Indigenous rights secured more than 90 per cent support - the highest support ever recorded at a national referendum.Incoming Country Liberal senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, a Warlpiri woman, has campaigned against the Voice proposal, calling it a “fad” and a distraction from more important issues for Indigenous Australians.
