In March, Rayner began experiencing “a nasty cough” but otherwise felt fine. A few days into it, he coughed up blood and decided he should go to the hospital.“It floored me,” he said. “Normally, you see somebody with cancer, they’re getting sicker and sicker and sicker and that type of thing. But I felt fine. I had no idea.”
Several years later, he bought the shop for himself. Before long, it grew into a business he shared with his family. Richard Rayner, former owner of Dan's Muffler, Signs & Decals, was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in March, after experiencing a cough. Although he shies away from the spotlight, he feels overwhelmed by the support the community has shown for him after word of his diagnosis got out. - Kristin Gardiner
