The U.S. lays out charges and sanctions against Iranian government-linked companies and individuals for a huge hacking campaign that hit hundreds of organizations.

The U.S. claims that Iranians are behind a huge number of cyberattacks targeting companies and governments in over 100 countries.The Justice Department announced charges on Tuesday against three Iranian nationals who, between October 2020 and 2022, allegedly hacked into hundreds of organizations across multiple countries, including the U.S., the U.K. and Russia.

A senior DOJ official, speaking to press ahead of the indictment release, said that there was no evidence the targeted power companies had suffered any downtime as a result of the breaches. In the case of the shelter, it paid $13,000 in bitcoin to recover its files. The DOJ did not state how much the ransomware group had made in total.

The DOJ official said the hackers were seeking financial gain and were not working on the behalf of the Iranian government.the alleged hackers and claimed they were executives at two Iranian government contractors, Najee Technology and Afkar System.could not immediately find contact details for the companies, both of which were also sanctioned, alongside another seven other employees.
