The nation’s universities are brimming with short courses aimed squarely at the executive sector.

As universities scrambled to educate students online at the height of the pandemic, a new opportunity emerged.

Delivered in short learning bursts, these new skill sets are packaged for learning within weeks, rather than years. The appetite has been strong, with enrolments steadily building for universities that have jumped on board. The University of NSW Business School, for example, is offering a 28-day leadership course, among others, in its short courses portfolio through the year. Popular courses cover subjects such as data analytics, innovation, communication, ESG and strategy.

“That’s why we now have shorter, sharper programs across leadership, sustainability, innovation, productivity and wellbeing.” “People are enrolling in short courses because the time commitment makes it possible to alongside work commitments, and because it’s a more affordable way to learn,” she says. “We’ve just released a sustainability short course. We’re expecting enrolments from people who may never do sustainability as a career, but they’re seeking to understand that area because it’s something they are passionate about,” Koslowski says.

“Some courses are as short as a few days, which appeals to organisations trying to keep up with the pace of change on the run,” Brown says.
