CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. could gain some new inflation-fighting power if it acquires the rival grocery chain Albertsons Companies Inc.
The New York Times reported that, according to its sources who wished to remain anonymous, a deal following the reported merger talks could be announced in the coming days. “If you think about the leverage that Walmart has with a lot of the manufacturers, whether it’s household goods, food manufacturers, the combination of Kroger and Albertsons should be able to have stronger leverage at the table, particularly at a time when inflation is as high as it is.”
Inflation-fighting power? kroger FrysFoodStores are price-gouging. This will just help them keep doing it.
Ugh, more crummy stores with zero customer service, nah.
How does less competition ever lead to benefits for the consumers?
Albertsons is pretty expensive. The prices will likely go up. Kroger is getting more bourgeois by the day.
Grocery prices will go up even more due to loss of competition.
Laugh my ass off…raise your hand if you think this will lead to lower prices…
They own everything, Bring back Smitty's, Lucky's etc. lol
Yeah because all these companies are struggling to turn a record profit
Who writes these propaganda articles?
Noooo I like shopping at Safeway
Inflation fighting - no - will give kroger additional opportunities to price gouge consumers. Hope this doesn't go through, it will ruin Albertson's/Safeway.
Kroger has ruined everything they acquired. So hope this doesn’t happen.
In my experience mergers between competitors tends to diminish competition on things like price but whatever, go ahead and parrot the press releases
I wouldn't expect 'inflation fighting power.' What I would expect is collusion and price-fixing. To those who don't know, Kroger already owns Fry's Food Stores here in Arizona.
