A new report claims the fossil fuel industry is spending $14 to $18 million a year sponsoring top-level sport in Australia to “greenwash” its image. liammannix

The report only looked at 14 sports: eight major professional sports including football, rugby, cricket, basketball and netball, and six “major” Olympic sports including cycling, swimming and rowing.Just 3.5 per cent of sports sponsorships identified by the report are linked with energy and mining companies, the smallest industry category identified; 30 per cent comes from consumer goods.

She said cutting fossil fuel advertising may hit some sports hard in the short term. “However, other sponsors will enter the game and there is greater long-term value in sports being true to their ethical, social and environmental values.” Business Council of Australia chief executive Jennifer Westacott told Sky News last week that common sense was needed on the issue.

liammannix Shows how cheap we are. $18 million is laughable if that’s all it takes

liammannix A paltry amount when compared to that spent promoting climate paranoia & renewables “solutions” by heavy industry, investment funds, miners, retailers, ESG promoters and speculators.

liammannix Take away the mining and gas oil from Aus and we’re f**ked. We’ll all be in a world of pain then.

liammannix Something to think about... Without the mining industry we won't be able to pull copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite, manganese, alumina out of the ground to produce batteries that drive our Tesla's or store energy for our home solar panels.. wake up people!!

liammannix Which industry isn't

sport liammannix It’s image is fine by me. And if sports benefit from their sponsorship that’s fantastic.

liammannix Is anyone else surprised it is corporates normal go to...

liammannix Imagine how those girls would travel around the country competing if there were no fossil fuels.

liammannix Good on them.

liammannix And how much does the confectionery industry spend to nutrition-wash its image?

liammannix Call it what you like… I actually prefer to call it clever marketing that makes good business sense, but apparently according to the woke lefties that’s not allowed.

liammannix How would you be charging your Tesla's without muh fossil fuel industry huh?

liammannix Is the sponsorship money really “spent”, ie after tax? Or is it pre-tax, ie used to create a tax offset?

liammannix Did anyone actually think they were doing it for the love of sport?

liammannix Is that all?

liammannix Yes, this is exactly what they do. There is no charity or social good for these companies. They are evil, deceptive, profit extracting parasites, to their fundamental core.

liammannix I have a question to all the protesters did we found the alternative to the fossil fuel. As, there's no assumption of global economy and it's backbone without the fossil fuel.

liammannix Keep doubling down on stupid, I’m sure amateur sportsmen will be so grateful when you drive all the sponsorship money out of their sports. But you’ll feel so well.
