Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Before the first week of trading in 2023 gets underway, the Toronto Stock Exchange will be closed for trading Monday in lieu of New Year’s Day. Experts say economic data will continue to drive North American markets in the new year as investors look for signs that central banks will continue to wind down the pace of interest rate hikes.Home sales figures for December will start coming out this week.

Statistics Canada will release its international merchandise trade figures for November as well as its figures for Canadian international trade in services on Thursday. Canada’s merchandise trade surplus was $1.2 billion in October as a depreciation in the Canadian dollar helped lift the value of both exports and imports.Statistics Canada will release its labour force survey for December on Friday.
