Within DFW, the bank will have $727 million in local deposits, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. figures as of June 30. Vista also gains a branch in Justin and Charis' office in the Crescent in Uptown, which houses Westwood Private Bank.

Steinmetz described Justin and nearby Argyle as"incredible growth markets." He also expressed excitement about the opportunity to connect with more businesses in Tarrant County. More than 400 banks operate in Texas, including almost 200 in the DFW market, according to the FDIC. Other states with large economies have far fewer banks. For example, 183 banks operate across California and 186 operate in Florida.

"We want to be the bank that boards around the state look to in order to create value for their shareholders," Steinmetz said."It's not about being too big to fail. It's being too small to be successful."
