Eskom has implemented continuous Stage 6 until further notice after eight generating units broke down on Sunday.
"The three running units are operating at minimum capacity and are at risk of shutdown should the coal supply constraints not be resolved."Stage 4 load shedding will continue to be implemented until further notice while Stage 6 will be implemented at 20:00 on Sunday night until 05:00 on Monday morning, Eskom announced on Sunday afternoon.
"The reactor responded to the turbine trip by reducing power and it remained critical, as designed, with no nuclear safety consequences. This enabled the unit to be returned to service quickly and the unit was resynchronised to the grid just before 07:00 this morning," said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
"[V]andalism and theft have extended to include pylons, whose tower members are often stolen by unscrupulous criminal elements, resulting in the steel structures collapsing and posing extreme danger to members of the public," Eskom said. But less than two years after the Covid-19 pandemic flattened business in the area and led to many closing shops, Prisca Horonga, the cafe’s owner, who works up to 12 hours and employs three people, says it is facing another existential crisis.
"Stage 4 load shedding will continue to be implemented at 16:00 – 05:00 daily, while Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented at 05:00 – 16:00 daily," the utility said on Sunday. The research by the Finland-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air assumes that the utility will continue to operate its plants as it does currently, with many of them breaching South African emission standards.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has been asked to drop the empty promises and listen to the pleas of 60 million long-suffering South Africans. Eskom chairperson Mpho Makwana says that President Cyril Ramaphosa did not instruct or suggest to the board that it should not implement the impending 18.6% tariff increase, as that would amount to a neglect of its duties, he told MPs on Tuesday.
"There is a view that Eskom leadership is anti-coal, that we want to move away from coal," De Ruyter said. In reality, Eskom is to remain a"large consumer" of coal for a long period to come, he told delegates. The last unit of Kusile, the youngest power station, which is yet to be fully commissioned, is scheduled to shut down in 2071.
The continent’s most-industrialised nation has had 100 straight days of electricity cuts because of supply shortages largely caused by unreliable coal-fired power plants. Fixing the energy crisis that’s crimping the economy has become a central focus for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government.A day before load shedding was due to drop back down to Stage 2, Eskom has announced the return of Stage 4 in the evenings.
Eskom has imposed blackouts daily since October 31, making Monday the 99th straight day of outages, according to Bloomberg calculations. After a minor reprieve from load shedding during the day on Sunday, Eskom has announced the return of Stage 4. Eskom said breakdowns amount to 15 215MW of capacity while 5 199MW of generating capacity is out of service for planned maintenance.Eskom will start a legal process to clear the way for an upgrade of power lines and increased service to the northern Limpopo province, according to a statement by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure.
"Stage 3 load shedding will then be implemented and continue until 05:00 on Sunday morning. Load shedding will be suspended until 16:00 on Sunday afternoon, when Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented."
The power plants are incapable to function anymore.
8 units break down. Eishdom better at breaking than fixing!!!
No one can save SA. The Rand stands at R18 to the dollar, and next, we will get a grey list at the end of the month.
Just came in more companies are closing doors and moving abroad. I will do the same. No electricity, no business.

They trying to make fools of us, simple
How the hell can eight separate units breakdown simultaneously. It doesn't make sense does it.
Apartheid was bad but at least the country ran properly with competent people at the helm. I said it
Do these units communicate to break down at the same time? We always get five to six units breaking down. It has never been one unit. This is unacceptable.
The MYANC and GwedeMantashe1 ate deliberately doing this, to push state of disaster, so that they can loot state budget. They know this is their last chance to get rich quick. No ways they going to get a majority in 2024
In winter will be on stage 12🙆♂️
SA = Comedy Central of the world 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Eskom youre a disgrace!!! This country is broken thanks to the Myanc!!! 30yrs of stealing, neglect & incompetence has destroyed a once great & self sufficient country!
Even when we accept that we will be on stage 2 for the next two years, you still manage to get that wrong 🙆🏿♂️
The end is near. State of emergency is declared and eight units down in one day. CRP wake up please you are destroying this country.... 🤬

Marvnwitnoi sbwl stage 10 🕯️
Nah. We all have seen this pattern. Everytime Ramaphosa leaves, generators break down and we up there with stage 6. Just look back at all these warnings. Only when he leaves which means this is deliberate. Either way, we need to remove this Anc come 2024 by all means.

As we prepare for the new minister let's create a problem so that he looks like a hero on his first week in that office
You have failed miserably since 1994. Any one who wants peace and happiness in this Country needs to understand the Whites have to come back and take control. WAKE UP! Apartheid is dead and buried and will never ever happen again.
eskomsalaryshedding , over 40000 employees at Eskom and they can not fix anything so lets start Salary shedding there stage 2,3,4 30% of their salary stage 5,6 40% of their salary and see how quickly the fix and maintain the problem or just maybe no more load shedding

CyrilRamaphosa then tell your puppets to turn on Gariep Dam and Van der Kloof Dam hydro electricity plants! Will give us a boost in juice!
Companies are already closing down Eskom is a joke
The problem with democracy is the voters. We get what we deserve.
Good
Cyril's mandate was to finish whatever little progress black poor people had made post 1994 His handlers are ruthless shame
U get what you vote for just saying...
Stage6 is now becoming permanent. Why is it that South Africans aren't angry about this? I'm not going to form part of those that will accept this madness as normal. Let's take this to the streets. The reason we are disrespected like this is because we are not united as people.
