South San Francisco Planning Department officials confirmed that they have received an initial application— albeit incomplete— for the redevelopment of a site adjacent to the Golden Gate Produce Terminal.

It's been close to 18 months since plans to sell the Golden Gate Produce Terminal in South San Francisco — the longtime home of the largest and busiest produce market in Northern California — for redevelopment as a life sciences complexA lot has happened since then: San Mateo developer SteelWave committed to a long-term lease for the 17.6-acre site at 131 Terminal Court last year and spent $85 million on an adjacent 8.7-acre parking lot at 101 Terminal Court.

The city has deemed the developer's application for 101 Terminal"incomplete," and a representative of the Planning Department said the developer is working on revisions toThe modified application is expected to be resubmitted before the end of the month. Park 'N Fly — would be the home of the new produce terminal. The owners of the terminal had required a new facility be built as a condition of a sale. The terminal houses 400 tenants with short-term leases.
