Friday marks the culmination of a multiple-year stretch for McCarthy Building Cos. developing a gathering place, training grounds and more for employees in the East Valley.

McCarthy, the state's second-largest general contractor, will debut its innovation and craft workforce center on Feb. 24. The 40,000-square-foot building at 411 N. Roosevelt Ave. in Chandler will be an extension of McCarthy's footprint through the Valley, as it will retain its home base at 6225 N. 24th Street in Phoenix.

Kelton expects other markets where the St. Louis, Missouri-based McCarthy has a presence to replicate this model of an innovation and craft workforce center. The center will include a large training room that can accommodate more than 100 people and can be divided into three smaller spaces. Outside of the training room, McCarthy will have six to eight more adaptable breakout spaces for smaller group interactions. The building will have additional amenities like an outside yard, which will come with a barbecue and dining area, bar and cornhole court. Kelton expects to utilize the space to host events as well.

McCarthy acquired the building in June 2020 for $5.9 million, according to real estate database Vizzda. Prior to McCarthy taking ownership and remodeling the building, the space was used by the Arizona Department of Transportation and USA Today.
