CenterPoint Energy accreditation revoked after consumer complaints, Better Business Bureau says

The energy company said it severed ties with the Better Business Bureau before having its accreditation revoked. 'They may have 'quit,' but they never said so,' BBB says.

Dan Parsons, the president of BBB Houston and South Texas, said the non-profit membership association filed a formal motion of revocation in 2022. CenterPoint appealed.

Parsons said businesses are required to fill out the form each year. Parsons said he did not know why the company had not been filling out the form. He said information regarding revenue and employees gathered through the survey is factored into the BBB's rating formula."It only came to our attention, 'Hey, we may have to do something that may affect your rating. So we've gotta know your size. Your real size,'" Parsons said.

CenterPoint declined an interview with Eyewitness News, but it provided a written statement reading in part:

So who do you do business with if CenterPoint is not accredited? Duh? Lots of choices in Texas competitive market aren't there. Call CenterPoint 1-800-F**K OFF. Their customer service is so bad it makes Comcast look good. They have a deposit from my prior account they won't return, demanded it after shutting off my gas after not billing me for 2 months. also despite a dozen calls over 2 years CAN'T update the phone number on my acct!
