Analysts warn that a bubble in the space industry has formed with a surplus of companies aiming to build and launch small rockets. And some say it's just about ready to burst.

say that simply being able to launch rockets to orbit may not be enough to keep a company afloat.

For its part, SpaceX is building out its Starlink satellite constellation as an additional source of revenue, and Firefly Aerospace is developing its Blue Ghost lunar lander to fly payloads to the Moon. Rocket Lab also has its Photon satellite bus that can be used in a variety of orbits. It may be possible to support a rocket company only through launching payloads to space, but it would likely take major backing from government customers.

Governments could be particularly interested in small launchers and their ability to place small satellites in a specific orbit and to quickly launch as needed for military purposes. The company isn't focused specifically on building a small launch vehicle, but it offers the Falcon 9 as a rideshare that many different satellites can fly to orbit for a relatively cheap price.

That bubble popped a while ago. Also, small rocket companies are pretty much showing proof of concept then upscaling. Feel like the analysts are holding Astra and suddenly feel threatened 🤣

This isn’t a “bubble”. It’s just the market doing what it always does. There was always going to be a point where there was going to be successes, failures, mergers, horizontal/vertical integration, and stock prices reflected that as promise met market.

An article valid since before 2018. Rockets are visible and sexy, but a tiny slice of the space industry.

As usual, analysts are catching up to what everyone observing the industry knew several years ago. The rush to get into space startups via SPAC was risky from the very beginning.

LOL, Analysts discovering the obvious.

I guess size does matter

Almost like it should solely be a publicly funded endeavor for the benefit all of mankind rather than a private enterprise that’s only profit driven for some tech billionaire clowns

This industry should never have been privatized in the first place. It’s clear it was a disaster to do so.
