Maui County has sued Hawaiian Electric Co. over the fires that razed Lahaina, saying it failed to shut off power despite the dry and windy weather.

, saying the utility negligently failed to shut off power despite exceptionally high winds and dry conditions.

Hawaii Electric said in a statement that it was “very disappointed that Maui County chose this litigious path while the investigation is still unfolding.
