Increased summer temperatures and closing fossil fuel powerplants could cause significant blackouts in the coming years.
"Over the 10-year outlook, we continue to forecast reliability gaps, which are mostly due to the expectation that 62 per cent of today's coal fleet will retire by 2033. Westerman added there was a significant pipeline of proposed energy projects that could address much of the shortfall – assuming they were all completed on schedule.
