The company, Jenkinson's, cited a drowning and lawsuit as the reason, the Point Pleasant Beach mayor said.

Jenkinson’s, a private company which owns the majority of the beaches in Point Pleasant Beach, has shuttered access to all its beaches following a drowning that occurred in the offseason and a subsequent lawsuit, according Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra., in which he said it was “very unfortunate.”

On Tuesday afternoon, the beach entrances from the boardwalk, at Jenkinson’s-controlled points, were padlocked. At the very north end of the boardwalk entrance was blocked, but people could be seen slipping by to enter the beach. In his post, he directed questions to Jenkinson’s and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, which handles beach access issues.

However, such a closure like Jenkinson’s, of access points, prevents an array of beachgoers from using the beach, like fishermen, walkers, exercisers, sunbathers or people who want to enjoy the view from a chair.
