US prosecutors also questioned Pichai about a company policy that automatically deleted employee chat messages older than 24 hours. Pichai explained that this chat policy was established in 2008 by Google's legal team before he became CEO. He acknowledged that he didn't change the policy upon taking over as CEO because he wasn't aware of the need to do so, reported

The DoJ pointed to a 2019 email in which Pichai had asked an employee to email him if any Google employee left to work for Apple on a case-by-case basis.
