U.K. stocks finished higher Wednesday, with the FTSE 100 Index UKX, +0.28% growing 0.28% at 7,342.43.

Shares of building materials/products firm Melrose Industries PLC MRO, +3.32% and investment advisors company 3i Group PLC III, +2.77% climbed 3.32% and 2.77%, respectively. Standard Chartered PLC STAN, -2.92%, a major international banks company, saw the largest decline among FTSE 100 constituents, as shares dropped 2.92% on Wednesday.

Fresnillo PLC FRES, -1.77%, a precious metals company, and major international banks company Barclays PLC BARC, -1.72% rounded out the top five largest decreases as their stocks dropped 1.77% and 1.72%, respectively.
