The scholarships aim to encourage the future workforce in construction engineering (civil and mining), welding, industrial mechanics, heavy machinery mechanics, and electrical and electronic engineering

The Mining Industry Human Resources Council has stepped up to provide scholarship funding for post-secondary programs related to the mining sector.

In this case, more than $100,000 is being provided by MiHR Council to 40 students at Collège Boréal. The scholarships aim to encourage the future workforce in construction engineering , welding, industrial mechanics, heavy machinery mechanics, and electrical and electronic engineering, said a Collège Boréal news release.

Mathieu Chretien, a student in the Construction Engineering Technician program at Collège Boréal and recipient of a $2,500 scholarship, expressed his thanks: “I am deeply grateful to the MiHR Council for this generous scholarship, which encourages me to pursue my academic aspirations with determination and gratitude.”

The MiHR Council is a Canadian not-for-profit organization committed to identifying and addressing human resource and labour force challenges in Canada’s minerals and metals sector. To help address the sharp decline in enrollment in mining-related post-secondary programs, MiHR invested 2 million dollars in funding from its Mining Sector Skills and Solutions Strategy for the Clean Economy project.
