This programme comes at a time when the Eastern Cape is battling with a technical recession.

The e-commerce sector in the Eastern Cape has received a boost following the training of 1 200 young people through the Last Mile Motorbike Delivery Programme.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic the demand for delivery services have seen rapid growth particularly in urban areas such as Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay.Mboniseli Mkhonwana says, “It has benefitted me a lot and it is putting the bread and butter on the table. l remember when l started out as a learner but now I’m a businessman that is owning three bikes. There are other guys who are working for me. On my payroll l have three guys that are working for me so it has contributed a lot.
