JOHANNESBURG – MTN moved closer to finalising one of its most international problems with the Nigerian Communications Commission announcing yesterday that the mobile giant had paid a $764 million fine for unregistered SIM cards in the country.

“By MTN listing on the NSE, we have given reality to that important function of the commission. Through this listing, Nigerians will be empowered to control, own and manage one of the dominant telecommunications companies in the country,” he said. “This would allow MTN to expedite ongoing reforms in that market, and one hopes that they would want to ensure that they don't find themselves in a similar situation in the future,” Dazela said.
