THE Philippine semiconductor and electronics industry has lost around $5 million to $10 million since last year because of the absence of a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States. “We’ve actually lost some opportunities in the US because of the absence of an FTA.

THE Philippine semiconductor and electronics industry has lost around $5 million to $10 million since last year because of the absence of a free trade agreement with the United States.

“Since they know we don’t have any FTA, some companies may just not want our EMS companies to produce for exports to the US,” added the Seipi chief. Lachica, meanwhile, said that the Philippines got a $13.9-million grant from the US ITSI Fund for this year.
