British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on July 24 appointed Sajid Javid as finance minister. Javid, who was most recently the home secretary, is a former banker who left Deutsche Bank in 2009 to enter politics.
The UK's Conservative Party said on July 23 that Johnson had won its leadership election, gaining 66% of the votes cast by Conservative party members.
