JOHOR BARU: The owner of an agriculture company here has been cheated out of RM357,000 in a land scam.

Johor Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Salleh Abdullah said the man, in his 50s, was looking for a plot of land to plant sugarcane and was introduced to someone claiming to own 100ha of agricultural land via a broker.

“However, when the victim checked on the status of the land with the Agriculture Ministry in Putrajaya, he learned that the plot of land actually belonged to the Federal Government, ” he said in a statement on Tuesday . “Later, a person impersonating a courier agent called the victim asking for RM103,000 in taxes before the parcel could be sent to him, ” he said.
