The deadly Beirut explosion shattered 7,000 tons of glass — and one group is hiring people to collect it and turn it into traditional art

Two crossed lines that form an 'X'. It indicates a way to close an interaction, or dismiss a notification. As Lebanon continues to recover from the blast, volunteers are collecting broken glass and turning it into traditional Lebanese jugs.

"Our main goal of this was to employ people — a lot of truck workers, a lot of glass-processing workers, who've also been unable to work because of high prices," said Anthony Abdel-Karim, a volunteer coordinator with Cedar Environmental, the nonprofit leading the initiative. "We're receiving about 15 to 17 tons from Beirut right now," said Wesley Hammoud, deputy head of the Uniglass factory. "There are organizations working to bring us more. They're telling us that there's still about 150 to 160 tons of broken glass."

Abdel-Karim, who has been coordinating this project, says recycling is still not the norm in Lebanon.

They give people the wrong reasons to vote for a candidate, i.e., who is the most handsome, most witty, most funny, give the best one liners, reads the best speech, etc.
