A look at the new R100 million solar-backed flagship Food Lovers in Cape Town

Construction on the 3,000 square metre store started in January 2022 and forms part of the group’s R400 million expansion drive.

The new stand-alone site is focused on energy efficiencies, the group said, and includes features such as remote cabinet monitoring capability, ice storage systems for air- conditioning and solar panels that will generate 360 kWp DC of renewable electricity annually. The gourmet butchery boasts a team of 25 dedicated to delivering a premium meat counter. Other departments within this 3000sqm space include fresh produce, an on-site bakery, a wine section, a fresh seafood department, and cheese and deli counters.

The Grab&Go includes a Sushi counter and a Biltong Bar, and a Seattle Coffee Co will also be available at the entrance to the store. Among some of the more unique features, the store has also placed animatronics around the store in a bid to create a “theatre” experience for shoppers.Gourmet butchery with artisanal blockmen;
