A contentious piece of proposed federal legislation is setting off fireworks between Alberta’s government and Ottawa.
To meet Ottawa’s emissions targets, the legislation would eliminate jobs in the following sectors, with the promise to transition the workers to cleaner energy industries:Forestry: 35,000 workers; zero per cent of Canada’s employment;Manufacturing: 193,000 workers; one per cent of Canada’s employment;Transportation: 642,000 workers; three per cent of Canada’s employment.
Trudeau was asked about Just Transition on Wednesday, but would not divulge many details about it, or the division it has caused. Alberta’s NDP leader Rachel Notley agrees with Smith that the legislation needs to be scrapped unless there is consultation with Albertans. Smith says the province will use every power it can, including the potential use of the Sovereignty Act to ensure this future legislation has no impact on Alberta.“It was coined by extreme environmental groups who want to completely phase out the oil and gas and fossil fuel sector. They use that knowing that was going to be the way it was interpreted.”
Bull. Any piece of proposed federal legislation would have formed the pretext for defacto separatists to set off performative fireworks. The fireworks are always fake. Always.

Notley always agrees “BUT”… she has no place in Alberta politics. She’ll say what she has to to get in, then blindside Albertans to follow the Liberal coalition agenda.
I would consider her take relevant if her track record on any legal issue (or any issue affecting Albertans) was even approaching 50%

Make no mistake. Alberta will be the first of provincial dominos. If T succeeds, other provinces will follow. End game: create complete dependence on the federal government in all aspects currently under provincial jurisdiction. T is trampling on the very foundation of Canada.

No surprise. Smith is lying about what the feds are doing to try and win the AB election. The Just Transition thing is now called the Sustainable Jobs Plan and it’s about supporting growth in new areas including in the oil and gas sector for things like hydrogen production.
