In New Zealand, which consumes more eggs per person than most countries, rising costs have sparked a frenzy

Eggs have soared in cost around the world over the past year as avian flu decimated chicken flocks and fallout from Russia’s war with Ukraine raised the prices of energy and animal feed. In the United States, egg prices have far surpassed the increase in other grocery items, soaring nearly 60% in the 12 months to December compared to the year before. In Japan, wholesale prices have reached a record high.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , anyone signing up for a backyard coop should take special care when handling the animals and their eggs, particularly because of the risk of germs associated with salmonella. New Zealand’s egg shortage has been linked to a long anticipated change in farming law, which took effect on January 1 this year.

The have access to ostrich eggs. They taste identical, and you get approx 24 chicken eggs from 1 ostrich egg.

Is that why the PM resigned ?

Sanctions against Russia are futile since it's aligned on “communist” China. With its cheap products made by its slaves, China is in control of inflation worldwide. The whole world is quickly exploding into civil wars without all those cheap products made in China.

This story is a yolk.

We like our eggs, okay? Goddduuuhhh.

No one can do without at least one egg a day. 👌👌

Only to be hit by the rising cost of chicken feed and vet services.

Large industrial chicken farms send male baby chicks down a conveyor belt into a shredder while still alive because they don't lay eggs(no profit). They shred them alive.

Why not just not raise the price of eggs?

Not the avian flu here but an entire industry not being capable of dealing with a transition time of _10_ years to meet the new requirements. 🤦‍♂️
