Ottawa warned after okaying the merger of Rogers and Shaw that it would get tough with telcos if cellphone bills don\u0027t get cheaper. Read on.

What could be done?Theoretically, the government could go as far as pushing for regulated wireless prices or Champagne could open up Canada’s wireless infrastructure to allow more upstarts to get a foothold in the country, according to some lawyers and policy experts.

Winseck said the industry minister could direct the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to regulate rates for wireless services. But the most effective move available to the minister, Winseck said, was to kill the deal altogether. “It would have been easy to shoot it down,” he said.

“This is all just show,” said Osborne, who isn’t acting for any party in the Rogers-Shaw matter but routinely provides advice to investors on probable outcomes from the deal.In his announcement on March 31, Champagne said before he green-lit the Freedom sale, he pushed Rogers and Quebecor to agree to an “unprecedented and legally enforceable set of commitments” that will turn Freedom into the fourth telecom player that successive governments in Canada have dreamed about for years.

Yeah right. Those vultures will rip off Canadians every chance they get.

And as with most headlines that end with a question mark the answer is... No. Allowing Shaw and Rogers to merge sure as shit isn't going to help.

No

Well logically no. They’ve been in power for 8 years now and haven’t lowered any portion of a cell phone bill. Why would they do it now?

I figure that he can make life pretty miserable for them if they don’t.

He has been paid off...

No… but free markets can, but not if the government keeps allowing all these mergers! I guess fewer companies make logistics easier on the lib$ when it comes controlling companies with their new censorship bill… 🤨

Yes, the government can price regulate, despite the fact that postmedia wants anything but that, especially where privatized hospitals, schools and prisons are concerned.

A big fat no

Just how gullible are voters...government lowering costs for citizens...🤣 🙄

EASY, EASY solution for all the dummies out there. Call your MP and say you want Verizon TMobile and ATT in Canada now!

With the savings I can pay my carbon taxes!

Short answer: NO!

🤡😂😂😂 cdnpoli TallTales

Rogers, Telus and Bell have more power and influence over the Liberals than any other entity, other than the Chinese Government.

Bills only lower when you reduce bureaucracy and protectionism.

Its only real Champagne if it comes from the douchebag region of France.

No. This is posturing. They need to fill their election war chests - because Canada is pissed off and the next election is going to be ugly.

Well sure it's only fair he gives them monopoly power and untold wealth, they solemnly agree to do Whatever He Says. ConnardDirigiste
