Directed by Cathryne Czubek, Once Upon a Time in Uganda follows a brickmaker who turns into an Internet sensation thanks to his proclivity for action movies. After debuting at DocNYC in 2021, the US rights to the fascinating documentary were acquired by Yellow Veil Pictures and Drafthouse Films.
In a press statement, Drafthouse Films CEO Nick Savva shared that, “The whole Drafthouse Films team is magnetically drawn to stories that explore what it means to be in love with cinema. This film is no exception.” Yellow Veil Pictures Co-Founder Hugues Barbier added that the documentary appealed to him because it "not only tells the fascinating untold story of Issac Nabwana’s true passion for stories and spectacle, but it’s also a heartfelt story of friendship.
