Insurance companies in the spotlight as Hurricane Idalia makes landfall in Florida as a Category 3 storm

Stocks with exposure to the insurance and reinsurance businesses were in the spotlight on Wednesday as Hurricane Idalia made landfall at around 7:45 am Eastern Time on the coast of the Florida Big Bend near Keaton Beach, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm hit the coast as a Category 3 storm with winds near 125 mph as it weakened from a Category 4.

Publicly-traded companies active in the insurance sector include Swiss Re SREN, +0.05%, Aon Plc AON, +0.51%, Allstate ALL, +1.09%, Travelers TRV, +0.28%, Everest Group EG, +2.30%, Willis Towers Watson WTW, +0.55% and Arthur Gallagher AJG, +0.83%. Others include Progressive PGR, +0.51%, Chubb Ltd. CB, +0.58%, Hanover Insurance Group THG, +0.15%, Renaissance Re RNR, +1.95% and Arch Capital Group ACGL, +2.10%.
