Open-net pen farms have drawn criticism for risks to wild salmon stocks, so much so that the mandate letter for the federal fisheries minister includes a directive to transition away from the practice in British Columbia. Reporters asked NAIA president and Cooke Aquaculture operations manager Sheldon George what assurances he can give that the industry is doing what it can to protect the environment.
