African leaders, including Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu and South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa are in the U.S. for the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which is taking place from September 19 to September 26, 2023. In his first UNGA meeting as newly-elected leader of Nigeria, Tinubu called for "genuine partnership for Nigeria and Africa's development, rather than cosmetic gestures of the past". While Tanzania representative, Vice President Dr Philip Mpango and his delegation will represent his country at the sideline meetings on the environment, economy, health, water, democracy and Sustainable Development Goals. South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa urged the wealthier nations to honour their financial commitments toward developing nations' fight against climate change. He also told U.S. representatives that Africa is ready for new investment opportunities.
