A reported rise in ATM withdrawals is a clear message that Aussies still want access to cash, Queensland opposition leader David Crisafulli has said. Crisafulli pulled no punches on Sunrise on Tuesday as he blasted big business and the banks to “stop telling Australians how to think, how to vote, how to use their money”.

politician David Crisafulli takes aim at a cashless society. Joining former Gold Coast Bulletin editor Cath Webber for Hot Topics, Crisafulli told host Nat Barr it was clear Australians do not want to go cashless and were refusing to be told they should only use debit or credit cards. It comes as the RBA’s Retail Payments report, published on April 8, revealed Aussies withdrew $9.5 billion in total from ATMs in February 2024 — a growth rate of 9.5 per cent over the year from February 2023.
