Director Francis Ford Coppola details two new movie projects he's working on, one of which he intends to fund with Megalopolis' earnings.

Megalopolis releases in United States theaters this coming September from Lionsgate Films. The film is written and directed by Coppola, who spent approximately $120 million of his own money in order to get it made., Coppola was asked if Megalopolis would be his last movie or if he has plans to continue filmmaking beyond that.

“I’m working on two potential projects right now,” he answered. “One is a regular sort of movie that I’d like someone to finance and make in England, because I don’t have a big history with my wife in England. Everywhere else I go, I’m reminded of her all the time. The other is called, which is the story of three generations of an Italian American family like mine, but fictionalized, during which the phenomenon of television was invented. I would finance it with whatever Megalopolis does.

Coppola is also known for making 1972’s The Godfather, 1974’s The Godfather Part II, 1979’s Apocalypse Now, 1983’s The Outsiders, 1986’s Peggy Sue Got Married, 1990’s The Godfather Part III, 19992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and more.Having premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, Megalopolis will be released in United States theaters on September 27, 2024.

“Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare.

Along with Driver, the film stars Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, and more.Brandon Schreur has been writing about comics, movies, television shows, and all things pop culture for roughly five years.
