Small business owner optimism falls in August: NFIB survey

According to a recent survey conducted by the National Federation of Independent Business , small business owners experienced a decline in optimism during August. NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg joins to discuss the current sentiment among small business owners.

Um So the level of level of the index is clearly indicating that we're in a recession or recession period.Uh, the biggest thing driving the index down, of course, is really poor expectations about business conditions six months from now and expected sales uh over the next six months.Uh 4% I call that none but 4% say now is a good time to expand their business meeting.

I, I wonder what you're hearing as well in terms of how this election plays into business strategy for small business owners and their optimism.Well, we don't uh ask our members what their political affiliation is or what, how they plan to vote.So, uh, looking back at where we were in 1920 16, uh, so the uncertainty is really, really rising and, uh, that's not a good sign.People who are uncertain about the future, don't spend money and don't hire.
