As the pitching market shrinks, the BlueJays have to be proactive to ensure they don’t scrape the bottom of the barrel. (by bnicholsonsmith)

find themselves at an intersection of sorts.

“We’ll just continue what we’ve been doing to understand every opportunity across the entire market,” Atkins told the Toronto chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America last week. “The top of it, the middle of it and beyond that. There’s not a free-agent pitcher that we haven’t touched base with and we have been aggressively trying to understand every opportunity. We’ll continue to do that.

First, it was Kyle Gibson and Jake Odorizzi. Then it was Zack Wheeler and Cole Hamels followed by Michael Pineda and Jordan Lyles. Maybe Madison Bumgarner will be next. Bit by bit, the list of viable options has shrunk already. As Atkins said in October, “It’s not good enough just to have depth. You have to have major-league pieces and guys that can contribute in significant ways.”

bnicholsonsmith Blue jays are the bottom of the barrel

bnicholsonsmith I'm ok with the jays not going out and signing big name players. Theyre not ready to compete yet- still a couple years away. Jordan Lyles would have been a great addition- a quality, underrated arm. There are more guys around MLB like him, just need to know where to look.

bnicholsonsmith But wait....they want to dumpster dive for bargains

bnicholsonsmith Jays will be scraping the bottom of the scrapings at the bottom of the barrel.

bnicholsonsmith There will be no pitcher that knows their worth come to Blue Jays. Word on the street is no matter how much money Atkins Shapiro throw at you, the work environment is garbage.

bnicholsonsmith What a embarrassment.

FAN590 bnicholsonsmith Move the Jays to another division please or stop talking about a fixed sport

bnicholsonsmith I thought Boruki and Thornton were studs of the future. Thought the kids they picked up form the Mets were top prospects ready to light Toronto up. Wasn’t that what they all wrote last fall?

FAN590 bnicholsonsmith They just might get bottom of the barrel, ownership won’t spend money, and upper management is a pair of buffoons. A recipe for low end talent at best- and even that doesn’t want to play here.

FAN590 bnicholsonsmith Newsflash: they will do nothing because they never do and all they do is talk and talk and talk

bnicholsonsmith This management continues to be underwhelming. Hopefully we get at least one

bnicholsonsmith

bnicholsonsmith Looks like another season of only watching a handful of games or innings to check on the young players.

bnicholsonsmith Too late.

bnicholsonsmith Narrator: They won't be.

bnicholsonsmith It’s what they seem to do with this management team, scrape the bottom is a understatement.

bnicholsonsmith Count on it!

bnicholsonsmith Proactive, please stop with this nonsense

bnicholsonsmith What did the Jays put on the table for Wheeler? Would love to know.

bnicholsonsmith Hint: they will but say they tried. They have their sights on 2020.

bnicholsonsmith Who’s coming on the market next off season? I don’t think it’s worth getting someone right now unless he is young and long term

bnicholsonsmith Question? Why are Shapiro and Atkins still there? Come on Rogers it’s time to send them packing. Speak with forked tongues.

bnicholsonsmith Blue Jay GM Ross Atkins says all the right things but does nothing worthwhile. The Blue Jays will top their 95 game losing streak! Attendance will get worse. Until Jay's Management does something BIG, they will continue as bottom feeders.

bnicholsonsmith All jays do is talk talk and talk next season beer a dollar a cup and hot dogs 25 cents.

bnicholsonsmith Scraping the bottom of the barrel is sort of what they do, isn't it? Large market team with small market budgets. It's starting to look like the cheapskates will have the worst pitching staff in baseball again this coming season.

bnicholsonsmith Shapiro offered $10 a game to Cole.

bnicholsonsmith Atkins couldn’t find the bottom of the barrel if he was in it.

bnicholsonsmith The players choose not to play

bnicholsonsmith Toronto is just not an attractive market for FA’s for whatever reason. Historically trades have been the predominant means the Jays have landed top talent. Unfortunately this front office is continually being fleeced on that front. It’s a lose/lose situation folks

bnicholsonsmith Is this a *note to self?

bnicholsonsmith Hold on! What happened to “interested in Cole” reports.....

bnicholsonsmith Rumours are that Ross Atkins checked out Dollarama looking for his starting pitchers but his haters were lined up for blocks looking for bargains they break down by the time you get home with them. The top guys will not come to Toronto yet.

bnicholsonsmith Get ready for another losing season and higher ticket prices.

bnicholsonsmith This organization is the worse i have seen in years... Bottom feeders again sad to say!!!

bnicholsonsmith Oh they will , death , taxes, shatkins fucking up to save a pretty penny. Count on all three

bnicholsonsmith Might have to move the FA CBA to blind destinations and players just accept the offer that looks the best to them
