Mavcom, established in 2015 to take over aviation matters from the transport ministry, will now be part of the government’s Civil Aviation Authority.

“Mavcom was set up because the previous administration wanted to have a more independent body” to regulate commercial matters relating to civil aviation, he said.Aziz Kaprawi. Yesterday, the transport ministry confirmed reports that Mavcom would be disbanded and that its key roles would be absorbed by CAAM. This means the Mavcom Act will be repealed and the CAAM Act amended.

“Not only is there a duplication of roles and responsibilities, some of the provisions contained in the Mavcom Act are vague, too general and poorly phrased,” he told FMT.

There've been many cases called out by MAVCOM in the past that helped consumers and put bully airline companies back in place. Removing checks and balances is indeed a slippery road..

So what will happen to consumer rights? this merge seems to favor towards some particular airline that has a lot of issue with Mavcom 😒

Additional & unnecessary checks & balances mean additional bureaucracy. I believed MOTMalaysia & CAA_Malaysia are more than capable to manage civil aviation in Msia. Anyway, MAVCOM’s powers were carved out frm MOT & CAAM at the 1st place.
